Making Room for What Matters
Sometimes decluttering isn’t really about getting rid of things. It’s about making room for the life you actually want.
We can hold onto old papers, clothes, projects, commitments, and even versions of ourselves because of one little thought: What if I need this someday?
What if I go back to that job? What if I need that information? What if I change my mind? What if I’m supposed to be doing more?
Over time, all those possibilities can become clutter, not just in our homes, but in our minds.
Sometimes we need to pause and ask a different question: If I needed this again, would it be difficult or expensive to recreate? If the answer is no, perhaps we can let it go.
The same can be true of the expectations we carry. We can admire someone else’s path without deciding it has to become ours. We can want growth without wanting a life that feels constantly full. We can value meaningful work while also valuing an afternoon walk, cooking dinner, or being available for the people we love.
You don't have to keep a physical or emotional archive of every version of yourself just in case you become that person again.
Sometimes making room means releasing what no longer fits, and trusting that what truly matters will still be there.
